This Memory Card camcorder accepts SD/ SDHC cards including the huge
capacity SDXC format for very long recording times. As well as this
there is 4GB of built-in flash memory just in case you run out of card
space.
Enhanced Optical Zoom
The SDR-S50 has a very long 70x optical zoom range which starts at the
wideangle 33mm (equivalent) focal length. Wideangle optics are
especially useful for filming indoors and at close quarters for example
to record a very quiet sound. At the other end of the zoom range the
enhanced zoom extends the range to 78x with no reduction in recorded
resolution.
Optical Image Stabilisation with Active Mode
With very long zooms and their highly magnified images, camera shake can
be a major concern. This is where Panasonic's own OIS (Optical Image
Stabilisation) comes into its own. It continually adjusts the position
of a correcting lens at a rate of 4000 times per second to keep your
images steady. The stronger Active Mode is ideal for high levels of
jolting for example of you are filming while walking (mind that lamp
post though!)
Intelligent Auto
Uses a the following technologies to determine the best settings to obtain fine image quality:
- AF/ AE Tracking - Follows your subject as it moves around in the frame to make sure it is in focus and correctly exposed
- Intelligent Contrast Control - Prevents washed out highlights and blocked out shadows
- Face Detection for up to 15 faces - sets focus, exposure and softens skin blemishes
- Intelligent Scene Selector - Automatically chooses from Portrait, Scenery, Spotlight and Low Light
Scene Modes
If you prefer to select the scene type for more creative control you can
choose from the following: Sports, Portrait, Low Light, Spotlight,
Snow, Beach, Sunset, Fireworks, Scenery, Night Scenery.
Pure Color Engine
The colour processing on this camcorder converts the complementary
colours recorded into RGB channels and extracts the LF luminance values
from this signal. This gives rich colours with better accuracy and less
bleed.
Pre-REC Mode
If you're waiting for that dolphin to leap out of the water or the F1
car to zoom past, it may be difficult to precisely anticipate that
moment. However in Pre-REC mode, the camcorder actually has a memory
buffer that "remembers" what was being viewed before you pressed the
record button. Never miss that moment again!
