TIPA Best DSLR award winner 2010

The Pentax K-x is an update of the highly successful K-m model and offers high performance from a compact, lightweight body.

12.4 Megapixel Stabilised CMOS Sensor
The CMOS image sensor on the Pentax K-x is a high sensitivity design, allowing up to ISO 12,800 extended sensitivity (from 200-6400 normal range). This facilitates shooting in dim conditions and when long lenses are attached.

PRIME II processor
The Pentax Real Time Image Engine II processor has been developed to deliver richer colour rendition along with faster data processing and movie transmission speed. As the heart of the camera it allows advanced features to be used while still demanding less battery power.

HD Video with Sound
Record HD quality movies with the Pentax K-x. It records in 1280 x 720 quality at a frame rate of 24 frames per second. Aspect ratio is 16:9 (widescreen).

High Speed Shooting
The tough shutter used on the K-x has been tested to be reliable for up to 100,000 releases. Its maximum speed of 1/6000 sec is impressive for sports and wildlife fans, as is the 4.7 frames per second burst mode.

Live View
See what you’re shooting on the LCD monitor before you commit. As Live View is a feature, 3 focus modes are made use of:

  • Contrast AF – for all round accurate focusing especially in dim light
  • Face Detection AF (up to 16 faces in a frame) – recognises faces and gives them focusing priority
  • 11-point Phase Difference AF – Ultra fast focusing customisable focus points – also accessible in viewfinder mode

Shake Reduction
As Pentax Shake Reduction is camera-based it works with any lens fitted to the camera, including old non-AF Pentax lenses, giving up to 4 exposure stops of stabilisation.

Additional Features

  • CTE Mode for brighter colour rendition
  • 16 Digital Filters which can be used in combination for special effects
  • Cross-Process Mode – mimic the outlandish colour balance obtained with colour film being processed in different chemical sets
  • Long battery life - up to 1900 images from one set of Lithium AA batteries
  • Custom Image function – personalise your images
  • Dust Removal (DR) – mechanically shakes away dust from the low pass filter in front of the CMOS sensor
  • HDR – Combines three exposures into a single image for a wider dynamic range (punchier contrast and colour)
  • 10 Scene Modes for shooting tailored to the scene being photographed
  • Automatic correction of distortion and lateral chromatic aberration when used with Pentax DA and FA lenses
  • Bundled software including the facility to process RAW image files
